How the calculator works

It compares the monthly cost of your current TV package (including box rentals and fees) with the monthly cost of the services you tick. One-time purchases, such as an antenna or a streaming stick, are subtracted from your first-year savings, and the calculator shows how many months it takes to earn them back.

Example: a typical cable household

BeforeAfter
TV package: $110/monthAntenna: $40 once
Box rentals & fees: $20/monthFree apps (Pluto TV, Tubi): $0
Netflix with ads: $7.99/month
$130/month$7.99/month + $40 once

That household saves about $122 a month, or roughly $1,420 in the first year once the antenna is paid for. Your numbers will differ — enter your own bill above.

Tips to save even more

  • Rotate subscriptions. Keep one or two services at a time and switch every few months instead of paying for all of them at once.
  • Start with free options. An antenna covers local news and many sports, and free ad-supported apps cover a surprising amount of TV. See our guide to free TV streaming apps.
  • Check what your antenna can receive before you buy one — our TV antenna guide explains how.
  • Look at annual plans for services you know you will keep; they are usually cheaper per month.
  • Return your rented boxes when you cancel, so you are not charged for unreturned equipment.

Frequently asked questions

Should I include my internet bill?
No. You need internet either way, so the calculator compares only the TV part of your bill. If your provider bundles TV and internet, ask for the internet-only price before you cancel.

Are the service prices exact?
They are typical prices at the time of writing and change often. Edit any price to match what you would actually pay.

What if my new setup costs more?
The calculator will tell you. Untick the services you could live without, or rotate them month to month.
